Current Political Situations by Country

Angola (Restricted Democratic Practice) A history of civil war and a failed democratic transition are the main reasons why Angola's political situation is restricted.

Benin (Democracy)

Botswana (Democracy)                                                                                                                                    Botswana is Africa's oldest multiparty democracy. Since independence from the United Kingdom in 1966, all elections held were considered democratic and competitive. The country has been dominated by one party, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), but opposition political parties function freely and actively participate in the democratic process. The most recent National Assembly election was held in October 2004 and considered free and fair by observers. In addition to its democratic credentials, Botswana has an independent judiciary, generally free press, and a good human rights record
